Tea Room screen
Two-panel screen used as a key feature in Japanese tea ceremony rooms. They are used at the edge of the host's mat to separate him form the guest's area. They are also placed behind the tea master during his ritual preparation of green tea. Writings on these fan paintings are according to some personal taste. The tale goes when one of the retainer of the Ashikaga Shoguns passed over a Kyoto bridge, the retainer dropped his open fan accidentally into the river. The moving shape attracted the attention of the samurai and began throwing their fans into the water which thrilled them with the pattern that formed of the river. This might have given way to placing fan-papers upon Japanese screens.Fan paintings on age darkened silver. Compositions are written on each of the fan paintings and signed. pre 1900, each panel measuring 14 1/4" (h) x 37" (w). In excellent condition. PAYMENT OVER TIME FORM AVAILABLE.
