Signed "Mela" on the bottom of her feet, presumably by the artist but perhaps by the girl who loved and played with her, this is the most incredibly realistic, handmade Navajo doll I've ever encountered. The Sioux and heavily beaded Plains dolls are seen at shows and featured in books, but Navajo dolls such as these? I have never held such an example in my hands.
