Tiffany Antique Silver Gravy Boats Circa 1880
This is a beautiful pair of sterling silver gravy or sauce boats by the premier American silversmiths at Tiffany & Co. in a timeless Rose pattern that embodies Rococo Revival design. Each stands on an oval base decorated with engraved spiral gadrooning, and has an elegant boat-shaped body with a shaped, wavy edge with a thick border and leafy, vegetal C-scroll handle. The body has been entirely decorated with chased and repoussé flowers, leaves and ferns that have outstanding texture and variety. Each gravy boat is in excellent condition and has been expertly crafted in heavy gauge silver. Each measures approx. 4 1/2” high, approx. 8” long across the handle, and together weigh approx. 27 troy ounces. Each is marked under the base with the mark of Tiffany & Co., the words Makers, Sterling Silver 925-1000, pattern number 6398, order number 106, and the letter M for Edward C. Moore, head of Tiffany’s silver production from 1873-1891. This lovely pair of antique silver gravy boats would add a special touch to any table. A superb example of Tiffany’s outstanding quality and design, and a truly collectible pair of gravy boats!
