An adorable bench made from a lovely patinaed walnut by the middle part of the 19th century, consisting of a rectangular serpentine shaped seat flanked by nicely scrolled armrests, supported by graceful cabriole legs accented with acanthus motifs. This is an adorable pair of armchairs made from beech wood by the end of the 19th century. The French commonly calls such armchairs Chauffeuse; the word Chauffeuse is French and comes from the word “Chaud”, which means warm/hot. Chauffeuse is a low seat armchair that was placed in the front of the fireplace to keep you warm.
