The facial features are sculpted in an abstract fashion, with an angular brow ridge and nose. Some brownish pigmentation highlights the face and the two long braids of hair painted below the ears as well as a lower border. A white marble niche sculpture, carved half in the round, depicting a youthful male head with sensitive facial features having wide almond shaped eyes and closely cropped, classic hairdo. Wearing a drapery type garment over his shoulders. Overall red-brown lightly encrusted surface. Ancient loss to tip of nose and a few trowel marks on the top left side of head and lower edge of bust. Overall exc. cond. Custom marble base. A beautiful example. Period: Ca. 100-300 A.D. Size: 10-1/4"H.
