Why is this painting being sold on trocadero and not at Sotheby's or at some other major auction house?

Most major auction houses will not offer a painting of this caliber by an extremely highly regarded artist without definitive authentication from one of the world's experts on that artist's work. This process of authentication might take months of research and involve considerable expense and I am not in a position to undertake this task.

This painting is being sold as manner of Edward Cucuel.We guarantee that this is an oil on canvas painting and not a print of any kind. This art work does not come with provenance, museum records, or COA's. According to Sotheby's Auction House "in the manner of" is a work in the style of the artist and of a later date. This means due to the fact that the origins of this artwork cannot be traced, this painting must be sold "as is" as an "After Edward Cucuel". Returns will be accepted within seven (7) days of receipt of merchandise. In order for returns to be accepted you must contact us prior to sending merchandise back. You will be responsible for shipping and full insurance for returns.
