| A fine and rare studio porcelain okimono of a Mandarin Duck swimming with her duckling, decorated in underglaze copper red, gray, black, and blue, with rising waves molded in relief and covered with a greenish glaze, the ducks plumage boldly molded, the base unglazed bearing the impressed mark of the artist, together with the original tomobako storage box bearing the inscription “oshidori okimono heian hoshi saku,” the rear of the lid marked with a commemorative inscription by the original owner bearing the date 1942. Height 5 inches, Length 7.75 inches, made in the early Showa Period, c. 1940. TAKAGI HOSHI (1908- ?), a female ceramicist born to a kiln owner in Kutani, was an exhibitor in the famous Nitten exhibitions, a member of the National Art Ceramics Society, and the Kyoto Art Society.
