Miyanaga Tozan I Important Celadon Porcelain Vase
The superb quality execution of this heavily potted vase is of ovoid form having a short neck, and bearing carved/molded decoration, in high naturalistic relief, with flowering branches of thistle (azami) reserved on a rich celadon glaze. Height 8.25 inches, Rim Diameter 5.625 inches, Circumference 32.25 inches. The base bears the three character mark of the artist. The original tomobako (wood storage box) bears the inscription “celadon flower vase with antique design,” with the signature and red seal of the artist Miyanaga Tozan. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or restorations. The storage box has the usual aged/worn patina. Made in the late Meiji to late Taisho Period, c. 1910-26.
