Mojave Indian pottery jar made in the old style by Annie Fields, b.1884-d.1971. This double faced effigy vessel is her traditional style. Built with the sandy clay of the Mojave desert near Needles, California, decorated with red mineral paint, pit fired then dressed with tiny glass seed beads for necklace and earrings with larger blue glass beads, like Hubbell or Padre beads.
This style goes back over 100 years and may possibly be inspired by something much earlier.
Annie Fields made tourist pottery and dolls for many decades, so it is hard to say how old this is, but in this fine condition we can surmise it to be from the 1950s or '60s. Minor paint loss at one eye.
Dimensions are 6" tall to the handle and 4 1/2" across the globular body. Has a footed base. No signature as is correct.
Buyer pays $20.00 for shipping.
