Allen Sakiestewa has carved this traditional style Hopi Aya Kachina from dried cottonwood root and decorated it with horsehair, feathers, yarn and leather breechcloth. This Crazy Rattle Kachina is meant to hang or will stand and is 10" tall plus the 3" feather.

Traditional kachina tihu is carved from dried cottonwood root by Hopi Indian artist Fred Ross. Fred is a featured artist in Jonathan Day's book on traditional Hopi Kachina carvers.

The flat doll is the first type of Kachina given to the youngest Hopi girls, note the simply painted body with only the face being detailed. Tsap mana Kachina is a representation of the Navajo women.

Aya, a gourd rattle with cottonwood root handle is traditionally hand crafted by Hopi Indian artist Larry Melendez. Larry is featured in Jonathan Day's book "Traditional Hopi Kachinas, A New Generation of Carvers".

This type of gourd rattle is given to boys by Kachinas during Powamu and Home Dance.

The gourd is 5 1/2 inches diameter by 5 inches long, the pheasant and parrot feathers add 8 inches.

Neil David Sr. carved this wonderfully animated Warrior Mouse in 2000. This is not actually a Kachina but a part of Hopi folk lore. The little mouse saves the day against the chicken hawk, kind of a fable.

Nicely carved cottonwood root figure with a tomahawk and a bow, also a large feather on his head. The Mouse stands 5" tall, the base is 3 1/2" by 4". Signed.

Modern Kachina carving in the 'action' style by Hopi Indian artist Gerald Dukepoo, circa 1990s. Mongwu is the Great Horned Owl, a guard who keeps the clowns in line.

Carved from dried cottonwood root, painted with acrylics and oiled. Beautifully detailed and proportioned. The jewelry is carved as are the feathers, kilt and even the yucca stalks. Wearing a leather cape. Stands 15" tall.

This Kachina has been in a glass case so is in very nice condition. His signature came off with the glue that attached him to the base.
