Elegant large pottery jar hand crafted by Maria and decorated with the Avanyu by Julian, circa 1930-42. This was a top quality piece by Marie and Julian Martinez, note the extra painted design above the Avanyu. At 9 1/4" tall and 11" across the shoulder it presents as a large piece! Very minor surface wear from 75 years of handling. No chips or cracks. Back in the day it was very fashionable to have lamps made from the large jars of Maria Martinez and Margaret Tafoya. Fortunately the hole is on the bottom not on the side! Restoration is possible, but not necessary to enjoy the beauty of this lovely jar. Attractively priced at $14,500.00. |
