Perfect Chemehuevi Indian tray, splits of willow and martynia coiled over a three rod foundation. 2 1/2" deep by 9" diameter. Eight coils and twenty wefts per inch. Well balanced meanders radiate from the center black ring, finished with a solid black rim. Francis Xavier Ammann Collection #L1190-50. This is one of the large collection of Chemehuevi baskets on loan to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County in the early 20th century. Perfect original condition.
