| I love Miguel Melendez's work for its incredible quality and attention to detail and its innovative, slick designs. The experience that he acquired having worked for years at Spratling's and Margot de Taxco's is aptly illustrated in the perfection of the pieces that bear his signature. Tonight I am listing two additional examples of his - take a look at my inventory for a superb necklace with acqua gems - both of them pendant necklaces. In a design associated with Miguel this pendant features heavy yet crisply cast sterling adorned with azur malachite inlay, in the Mozaico Azteca style revived by the Los Castillo. Strong lines and impressive presence make this a stunning pendant and the chain that it comes with matches the style and proportions perfectly though it's probably not Mexican. The pendant measures 2 3/8" in diameter; the chain is 30 1/8" long and the set's combined weight 55.9 grams. Fully signed with Miguel's initial in script as well as Eagle 3 assay mark and "STERLING HECHO EN MEXICO", the pendant dates in the 1950s-60s while the chain, marked "925" is later yet still handmade, I believe. Both pieces are in excellent vintage condition. | ||
