|An exquisite example of the unsurpassed craftsmanship and sense of design present in the Mexican silversmithing community in the early years of its 20th c. Renaissance this is one of the best figural brooches I have seen! Made of thick gauge sterling silver with perfect cut-outs and deep hand-chased details a bird of paradise is perched among flowers and foliage holding onto a huge, luscious amethyst cabochon. Proving once again that not all high quality pieces have to be signed by one of Mexico's "big" maestros this brooch is simply marked "MEXICO STERLING" and dates in the 1930s-early 1940s period. Measuring 3 1/8" long by 1 7/8" wide it weighs 27.1 grams. The amethyst gem is 5/8" in diameter and at least 1/4" thick. The brooch is in excellent condition with stunning looks, a deeply colored gem with rich inclusions, exquisite workmanship and a fully functioning pin clasp with roll-over safety.|
