African Ashanti brass lost wax bronze chief riding in a palanquin. This wonderful "Ashanti brass sculpture" came to us from an important African Art collection. This vintage or antique sculpture measures 4 and one eighth inches long, 2 and one eighths inches wide and 3 inches high. This head is Kiganda. This is tricky: the tribe is Buganda; their name for people and things is Kiganda; an individual is a Muganda; and their language is Luganda. One can understand why they are now simply referred to as Ganda. The Ganda are the most important ethnic group in Uganda (a country in East Africa). The head is of mvuli wood but it is not a traditional carving.
