Wonderful Japanese Late Edo Period circular hanging Buddha, called AMIDA SAN SON ZO. The central Amida Nyorai Buddha is seated on a handpainted lotus stand with halo-like KOUHAI in back. Seated on each side of the central Buddha is a Bosatsu, an attendant. The carved wooden Amida Nyorai Buddha and attendants are carved in wood and painted in lacquer and have slightly red hued gold leaf treatment over the entire surface. Japanese late Edo Period ZUSHI containing the FUGEN and MONJU BOSATSU. FUGEN BOSATSU is seated on the elephant on the left and MONJU BOSATSU is seated on the SHISHI on the right. FUGEN is the BOSATSU of good conduct the MONJU is the BOSATSU of wisdom and education. Carved in fine detail. Japanese 19th century wood and lacquer carving of seated Amida Butsu and elaborate stand. Wonderfully carved and lacquered statue of Amida Butsu Buddha. The entire piece measures 15 1/2" tall, 7" wide and 6" deep. The seated Buddha measures 6" tall, 5" wide and 4 1/2" deep.
