Japanese Late Edo to Early Meiji Period Takeda doll. The doll looks like the Kabuki character, Benkei. The doll has GOFUN (powder made from oyster shells) head and hands, painted eyes, cloth and paper clothing, armor and weapons. Great facial and body expression. The doll measures 14" tall and 11" wide. The stand measures 10 3/4" wide, 2 1/2" tall and 7 1/2" deep.

Japanese late Edo period HINA doll set. The set consist of Emperor and Empress dolls. The faces and hands are done with GOFUN, powder made from oyster shells. The dolls have eleborate KIMONO made of paper and cloth. The empress has a very elaborate headress. The emperor measures 10" tall and 12 1/2" wide. The empress measures 11 1/2" tall and 12 1/2" wide.
