Japanese mid-late 19th century lacquered Kogo incense container in the shape of a incense game table. The box incorporates many of the traditional lacquering techniques such as MAKIE, NASHIJI, FUNDAME, RADEN, etc. The top has the lines of the game board done over a cloud design, floral design on front and back and vine design on the sides. The inside is done in NASHIJI with 2 clam shells done in MAKIE. The Kogo measures 2 1/8" wide, 3 1/4" long and 1 3/16" tall.
Japanese Meiji Period pair of black lacquer candlesticks. The wide base and top is done in a chrysanthemum blossom shape with 16 petals. The candlesticks measure 19 3/4" tall, 5 1/2" diameter at the base and 2 1/2" diameter at top.
Japanese late 19th century pair of gorgeous hand carved wooden and lacquered candlesticks. The pair was originally covered in a gold leaf or gold lacquer, however almost all of the gold has been worn off. The wide base and top is done in a chrysanthemum blossom shape with 16 petals. Japanese early 20th century lacquer round serving tray with design of crab expertly etched into the lacquer. Signed by artist. Comes with TOMOBAKO, original artist signed box. The tray measures 15" in diameter and 1 1/4" tall. The edge of the tray has a number of chips along the edge. Does not come with stand.
Japanese Meiji Period large lacquer bowl. The outside and bottom are done in black lacquer and the inside is done in red lacquer. The design of the wisteria tree and birds is done in gold lacquer over the black and red lacquered areas. A nice decorative piece. The bowl stands 4 1/8" tall and has a diameter of 11 1/8".
Japanese early 20th century Wajima lacquer bowl. The bowl is styled after a Japanese technique of making wooden bowls by "stitching" pieces of wood together with strips of cherry wood. This bowl is made to look like 2 triangular pieces of wood that have been "stitched" together on the sides. This bowl is actually done in one piece and painted in black lacquer with gold lacquer accents, giving the impression of the sides being stitched together. Japanese late 19th to early 20th century lacquer SUZURIBAKO. Beautiful black lacquer SUZURIBAKO decorated with gold and silver lacquer in a cherry tree and blossom design. Inside of box is decorated in NASHIJI with more cherry blossoms. Blossoms are painted on even the inside of the rims. The box measures 8" wide, 8 5/8" long and is 1 5/8" tall.
