Japanese early 20th century Wajima lacquer bowl. The bowl is styled after a Japanese technique of making wooden bowls by "stitching" pieces of wood together with strips of cherry wood. This bowl is made to look like 2 triangular pieces of wood that have been "stitched" together on the sides. This bowl is actually done in one piece and painted in black lacquer with gold lacquer accents, giving the impression of the sides being stitched together. Japanese late 19th to early 20th century lacquer SUZURIBAKO. Beautiful black lacquer SUZURIBAKO decorated with gold and silver lacquer in a cherry tree and blossom design. Inside of box is decorated in NASHIJI with more cherry blossoms. Blossoms are painted on even the inside of the rims. The box measures 8" wide, 8 5/8" long and is 1 5/8" tall.

Japanese early 20th century lacquer stand for SAKE cups. The top of the stand has 3 slits cut into it and sits into the top of the stand. If any SAKE is spilled while pouring, the slits are meant to catch the overflow. The stand is set on 2 tall legs. The black lacquer is decorated with gold lacquer. The rectangular box is done in an elegant repeating pattern with the design of maple leaves and cherry blossoms in the middle of the large shapes on the top of the box. Japanese Meiji Period fan shaped lacquered box. The box is done in the shape of 2 fans, one laying on the top of the other. Beautifully done in a black and brown lacquer. The bottom and insides are done in the NASHIJI technique. Most of the petals of the cherry blossoms are done in silver inlays. A few inlays are missing. The box measures 5 1/4" wide, 3" tall and 1 3/4" deep.

Japanese Late Edo or Early Meiji Period KOBON, incense tray. The tray is done with a natural wood finish with lacquered design, rim and back. The tray is done in a dark brownish colored black lacquer with chrysanthemum design done in gold MAKIE and NASHIJI lacquer technique. The natural wood tray surface is designed in gold lacquer with weeping willow leaves and dark brownish black lacquered swallows. The back is done by wrapping with a gauze like fabric and then lacquering over it.

Meiji Period small lacquer box in the shape of a traditional Japanese folding screen. The screen has been half closed, but the opened half shows the design of Chinese boys playing in a moon-lit landscape. The moon is done in a silver inlay. The box measures 4 3/8" wide by 3 1/8" tall.

The box has an autumn landscape done in a variety of traditional Japanese lacquering techniques. The box has a small metal handle on top and beautifully tooled metal hinges and lock.
