Japanese Meiji Period roof tile in the shape of a MINOGAME, a mythological animal that is part turtle, part dragon, symbolizing longevity and good luck. Carved with nice detail and expression. Unsigned. The piece measures 12 1/2" long, 7" wide and 4 1/2" tall.

The brown slip and part of the ceramic base has been cut into when the character were written on the bottle, showing that this was all done before the bottle had been fired.
