Japanese 20th century MASHIKO Living National Treasure artist, SHIMAOKA TATSUZO (1919 - 2007) large earthenware charger. SHIMAOKA TATSUZO was born in Tokyo in 1919. He studied at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. In 1946 he moved to Mashiko and entered an apprenticeship with HAMADA SHOJI. He studied under HAMADA for 3 years and the apprenticeship formally ended in 1949. Then he worked for 3 years with the Tochigi Prefecture Ceramic Research Center. Japanese Edo Period bronze portable and collapsible candle stand. The base opens up to a tripod stand and the central staff consists of 3 bendable sections. The bobeche, or drip catcher is incorporated into the tripod stand when not in use. 13" tall and 5 1/4" deep when standing and 6" wide and 4 1/2" high by 1/2" deep when collapsed.

A Japanese MEIJI Period man's tobacco pouch and KISERUZUTSU pipe case set. The pipe case and tobacco pouch are made of black leather in simple shapes. The pipe case and tobacco pouch are connected to a MANJU type NETSUKE with silver chains. The OJIME is also in silver with peony design. The print is a view of the town of Fuchu with its reflection in the river. Fine colors and impression. The paper measures 21 5/8" wide by 16 3/4" tall, and the print measures 18" wide by 12 5/8" tall. A few creases on the paper.

Japanese 20th century pair of lacquered HIBACHI. The HIBACHI were made in the 1930's or 40's. A wonderful pair of red and mustard gold lacquer in the design of stylized red petals coming down over the mustard gold lacquer. Each HIBACHI measures 10 1/2" tall and 11 1/2" in diameter.

Japanese late Edo or early Meiji Period iron heron OKIMONO figure. He iron heron is wonderfully and simply done, standing on one leg. Unsigned and with no storage box. The heron stands 11 3/4" tall and 7 1/4" wide and 4 1/4" deep.
