A GOOD ISLAMIC BRONZE VASE, 19TH CENTURY OR EARLIER.

An elegant cast bronze vase sparingly engraved with scrolls and flowers. It looks as if the deeper engraving has been filled with black lacquer so perhaps this vase is from Kashmir. The vase is substantially cast and finished on a lathe before engraving.

A CHINESE PAKTONG BRUSH POT, CIRCA 1900.

A very elegant ribbed white brass brush pot, baitong. The walls of the pot are hollow but the piece is quite substantial and feels heavy for its size. Its elegance derives from the incurving walls, a difficult shape to manufacture. The base is signed with an impressed seal, Wen Chang Ge, perhaps the manufacturer. ...click for details

A JAPANESE COPPER & SILVER KETTLE, MEIJI, CIRCA 1900.

A beautifully made utilitarian object, a copper kettle formed to look as if it is made from bamboo skin, the join “sewn” with silver stitching. The handle is hollow and ventilated. The interior is tinned.

A Chinese export plate decorated in the famille verte palette with swags of flowers and flying cranes within a wide diaper border. The rim has an iron-rich dressing, “Batavian brown”, thought to reduce the incidence if fritting.
