A PAIR OF CHINESE CLOISONNE VASES, JIAQING, EARLY 19TH CENTURY.
A fine pair of cloisonne vases decorated with formal scrolling lotus. The heavy vases are thickly enamelled with bright colours on a light turquoise background. The wires dividing the colours are soldered in place and where the solder has come to the surface here and there it has been heavily gilded along with the wires. The use of solder to fix the wires before the application of enamel had largely died out by the 19th century.
Approximately 18cm high and in good condition except for a small flake to the enamel, pointed out in the photographs. One the base of one vase you can see the remains of green wax originally used to fill where the turquoise enamel did not adhere when the vases were made. The vases weigh 1010 gm together.
Please study the photographs.
