The casket of octagonal form with canted shoulders and profusely decorated overall. The top and sides have been quartered and painted with alternating pictures of what seems to be good and evil figures from folklore. The inside has a fitted tray and is painted plain blue. Kashmiri lacquer of this quality and complexity is seldom seen on the market these days. Former owner’s label on the base.

10” x 7.7/8” x 5.1/8”. Overall in good condition for this type of item. One side wall of the lid has been cracked at the joins and has been glued. On the base there has been some age cracking of the joints but these are only apparent on the inside and the base is very stable. Some small chips to the edges could be touched in with watercolour to great effect.
