Nandi, the sacred bull, is the mount of the god Shiva and represents strength, faith, and constancy in belief. Images of Nandi often sit directly outside a shrine to Shiva, facing the deity.

Here Nandi is depicted standing, wearing two necklaces complete with bells. On his back he carries a lota that is actually an opening into the body, perhaps for incense sticks.
