A Japanese Bizen Hexagonal Tokkuri, 19th C.

A HEXAGONAL BIZEN TOKKURI, 19TH CENTURY.

This tokkuri is presented just how it was found, shabby chic! Three sides feature a bird and flower picture inscribed directly into the unfired clay, signed with a single character. Old dirt and colour can be found on the surface and the impression of long decomposed textile can be clearly seen. This can be removed with a little patience. Bizen pottery is a very high-fired stoneware that is self-glazing, that is it becomes vitrified at high temperatures. Conditions in the kiln produce colour flashes that add to the interest.

10.3/8 inches (26.3 cm) high. In good condition but with a firing crack at the bottom of one of the plain sides. This line is adjacent to one of the ‘flashes’ of colour and may be an indication of stress caused by the firing. Noted in the photographs.

If you would like to see the photographs in a larger format or file size that is with less compression or you would like pictures of a particular detail please let me know.

I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds, £ ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to your own currency, that is, the currency of your country. Payment may also be made by direct bank transfer in GBP. International Money Orders or Cashiers’ Checks in GBP are also accepted. I am sorry but I cannot accept a cash transfer payment by Western Union, as I don’t have an office nearby.
