An Unusual Arita Blue & White Dish, late 18th C.
AN ARITA BLUE & WHITE DISH, LATE 18TH CENTURY.

An attractive square dish with canted corners decorated with an oversize sage by a lake. The borders completely painted with figures in a landscape. Pieces with this kind of “filled in” border are illustrated in Shibata and seem to have been popular at the end of the 18th century, 1770 – 1800. By repute once part of the Bigelow Collection and disposed of by auction in New England.

Just over 6 inches (15.5 cm) square. Perfect except for a shallow chip on the bottom right corner. Please forgive the dust that is apparent in some of the photographs.

Please study the photographs.

If you would like to see the photographs in a larger format or file size, which is with less compression, or you would like pictures of a particular detail please let me know.
