Fine Japanese Stoneware Tokkuri, 19thC.

A FINE & UNUSUAL JAPANESE POTTERY TOKKURI, 19TH CENTURY.

This stoneware tokkuri is moulded which is a bit of a tour de force given its large size. I have never been able to identify the pottery. It is quite thinly moulded and must be fairly high fired. The yellow glaze appears thin and spotty as if it has been blown on using a tube but equally it could be a chance happening in the kiln. There is some fine brown spotting on the shoulder that must have arrived during the firing.

Approximately 12 inches (30.6 cm) high. Fine original undamaged condition. One panel has some cracks that probably happened during the drying stage before firing. The base has a line cast in from a crack in the original mould, though this looks like a crack in my photograph it is just evidence of a crack in the mould.

I am based in the United Kingdom so charges made to credit cards are in GBP ( British Pounds ) and your credit card issuer automatically converts the charge to the currency of your country. Payment may also be made by direct bank transfer in GBP. I am sorry but I cannot accept a cash transfer payment by Western Union as I don’t have an office nearby.
