| This Oil on Canvas "The Pietà", Chiari, Giuseppe Bartolomeo, (Italian, 1654 - 1727) is in Excellent Condition. Giuseppe Chiari was born in 1654 and by the age of twelve was already studying with Carlo Maratta (1625-1713), the most renowned painter in Rome through the latter half of the seventeenth century. Chiari emerged from the studio of Maratta as an independent artist in the 1670s, although he frequently collaborated with his master in various large-scale projects during the remainder of his career. The most important and faithful of the "Maratteschi," Chiari received significant commissions in nearly every year of his distinguished career. He worked for many of the principal noble families of Rome, though his most important patron was no doubt Pope Clement XI (Giovanni Francesco Albani, 1649-1721) for whom Chiari executed paintings, altarpieces, tapestry cartoons and frescoes, at St. Peter's and in other Roman churches, as well as in Urbino, Italy. His fame was considerable and the early presence of many of his paintings in English collections attests to his international stature. Measuring Framed size is 20" x 18", Canvas alone 16 1/18 x 14 1/18", Serious Inquiries are Welcome! | ||||||||||||
