I work with the importer and I am allowed to hand pick from his many carvings. He knows all of his Chinese carvers and told me that this very intricate Li Dragon took one of his oldest and best carvers several days to carve from a solid block of hard fruitwood. This beautiful piece is 1 3/4" tall and 2 1/2" long. I list it with Netsukes, but it is a bit delicate to really function as a Netsuke, it is just an outstanding miniature carving. A very unique piece of art.

I was able to handpick from hundeds of Chinese reproductions of Japanese Netsukes when they first entered the export market. I paid more and picked the best quality. You see cheaper netsuke reproductions online today, but they are nowhere near the quality of the ones I sell. Mine are more expensive but you get a real work of art. This carving is a reproduction of a traditional Japanese antique netsuke. It is the correct shape and size. Details on this boxwood carving are outstanding. It has a bo ...click for details

Only a highly skilled carver can handcarve a horse from a solid block of very hard fruitwood. The photos show the outstanding carving in this miniature, 2" wide, 2" high carving. It was handpicked from hundreds of Carvings done in China over a decade ago. Skilled carvers are vanishing as young people will not work for low pay in China today. This carving is a good investment as they are no longer being produced. Inset glass eyes and signed by carver.

I was able to handpick the best quality from a large selection of Chinese reproductions of Japanese netsukes. The cheaper newer offerings online today are not the quality that I have and sell. Here is a foo dog on a ball. Chinese loved lions, but had none centuries ago, so they bred dogs to look like lions, hence the lion dog-foo dog. This charmer is 1 3/4" tall, a copy of a Japanese antique. Same look, much less in cost. Inset eyes, signed on bottom.

The Chinese started handcarving reproductions of expensive antique Japanese netsukes a few decades ago. I was able to hand pick from these early carvings the best. This beautiful netsuke is rose wood, it is quite dark so I lightened my images to show details. It is almost black in color and a very hard wood that is very difficult to carve with the wonderful details seen with this one. It has a bone inset with artist signature. It is 1 1/2" tall and well rounded as where the originals so the ...click for details

A superior piece, carved in China, using an antique Japanese netsuke as a model. This piece is dark hardwood, He is about 1 3/4" tall. Decorated also on back. He sits in a metal cup stand that is included with piece but he will not stand alone as these pieces were meant to rock. He is the personification of Buddha, who meditated so long he lost his legs. He is the father of ZEN. You may see similar designs from low cost dealers but you get what you pay for, I hand pick the best, from the be ...click for details
