Really beautiful and skilled carving in this small Ojimi bead about 1" long and 1" tall. Mastadons are quite extince so the ivory is legal and has the same grain as elephant ivory, color tends to be a little more yellow. Beautiful grain on this piece. A Chinese copy of a Japanese bead for the Netsuke and Inro box worn by Samurai. A true collectible, could be worn on a cord.

This is a newer carving from Mastadon [long dead]tusk. It was done by a very skilled carver as you can see from the photos. It has a rat on a cat with a bell. "Belling the Cat" Japanese style and design, but the carving was done in China. It is just under 1" long. A wonderful collectible, could be put on a necklace, but original intent was to go with a Netsuke and Inro case. Fine carvers are as endangered as the living elephant, and pieces like this beauty are much harder to find ...click for details

Beautiful blue glass base color with layering of multi colors. Multi colored cameo glass snuff bottles are more valuable and will continue to increase in value as this very nice one will. It has a matching cap with bone spoon. It is about 3" tall and was carved with in the last decade. Snuff bottles and other objects of art that require skill and time do not go down in value and are a good hedge against our economic struggles.

A very odd snuff bottle. Very high carving done on three layers of Peking glass. The top layer is yellow and almost 3/8" deep. Three heads of Monks or buddhas. Green and white layers underneath. Very nice artistic design. I have never seen one like this and it does stand out as a tiny piece of art. It has carnelian top with bone spoon. It is about 3 1/8" tall. I am not sure of age, I would estimate it is a decade old, or newer. Great item for a collection.

Chinese snuff bottles are a smart investment in a world loosing its fine craftsmen. China is loosing the older better reverse painters. Most newer work is quite horrible. This bottle is quite beautiful. Faces, hands and calligraphy along with other delicate details are outstanding. This bottle also has touches of gold in the interior painting. Of all of the Chinese artist the skilled interior painters seem to be the most endangered. I suggest this outstanding bottle as a smart investment in the ...click for details

This agate has very nice colors and matrix. Agate is a brittle and hard stone to carve, the hand carving on this bottle is very attractive and a much better than average for a newer bottle. Foo dog has baby on her back. This bottle is heavy with nice hollowing. It has a carnelian top and bone spoon. It is 3" long and a little over 1" high. A very nice bottle for the price.

This scoop took the master carver over a week of work to finish. It is outstanding, from one piece of hard fruit wood. It was made as a scoop, but it is a work of art that would stand alone in any fine collection. The details are incredible, the carving is incredible and the piece is incredible. It is 4" long and about 1 1/2" at its height. There will soon be no more skilled carvers in China, and top quality pieces such as this will gain in value.

A beautiful and skilled copy of a Japanese wood netsuke. This is an Oni [demond] with a lantern on his head. It is true to the Japanese original which is worth thousands of dollars, this one was hand carved in China and is a fraction of the cost, for a very fine copy that looks like the original. It is 4" tall and about a decade old. These were done in very small numbers and this is the only one of this type I have seen, it is a great piece of work.

When the Japanese first met with Europeans, they were Dutch Merchants. Here is a remarkable recreation of that first meeting. This is a Chinese carved hardwood netsuke that is a very faithful copy of a Japanese original that is priceless. You see a Dutch merchant with his traditional hat and he holds a goat, they brought livestock with them. This top quality Chinese carving was done over a decade ago. There are few or no skilled carvers left in China, so this copy will continue to climb in value ...click for details
