Clever and intricate. This is a Chinese handcarved copy of an antique Japanese netsuke. You see the mouse grasping the turtles leg, who does show concern. This piece is 1 1/4" tall, 2 5/8" long. I hand pick from hundreds of pieces, I pay more for the best quality. You may find these Chinese copy netsukes for less from some internet sites, but you get a much better quality of carving with the netsukes I select and sell.

A superior piece, carved in China, using an antique Japanese netsuke as a model. This piece is dark hardwood, He is about 1 3/4" tall. Decorated also on back. He sits in a metal cup stand that is included with piece but he will not stand alone as these pieces were meant to rock. He is the personification of Buddha, who meditated so long he lost his legs. He is the father of ZEN. You may see similar designs from low cost dealers but you get what you pay for, I hand pick the best, from the be ...click for details

The Japanese had heard of elephants but never seen one. This is perhaps why this beast of myth takes on some aspects of an elephant. It is a very skilled Chinese carving by hand out of hard wood. It is a copy of a very expensive Japanese original antique netsuke. This quality and the unique design make this a collectible that will gain in value. This piece is 2" long.

94.00 Sold Thank you.

I pick the best from the importer who deals directly with the carvers in a village work shop in China. He tells me that the skeletons are the most time consuming to carve. Only the old skilled carvers can do them. He does not get this quality of carving today. His old carvers are not working anymore. Some of my netsukes cost more than some you may see on ebay, is you look at the photos to compare, mine are always a much finer quality and they cost me more for this top quality. This piece several ...click for details

Really nice hand carved boxwood netsuke from China. It is a copy of a very expensive Japanese original antique. It is 2" tall. If it were Japanese it would cost many times the price I list. This one is a Demond skeleton with lantern and on his back is a Devil mask. This one needs a bit of stickum to stand upright. A good piece with excellent carving.

Really beautiful and skilled carving in this small Ojimi bead about 1" long and 1" tall. Mastadons are quite extince so the ivory is legal and has the same grain as elephant ivory, color tends to be a little more yellow. Beautiful grain on this piece. A Chinese copy of a Japanese bead for the Netsuke and Inro box worn by Samurai. A true collectible, could be worn on a cord.

This is a newer carving from Mastadon [long dead]tusk. It was done by a very skilled carver as you can see from the photos. It has a rat on a cat with a bell. "Belling the Cat" Japanese style and design, but the carving was done in China. It is just under 1" long. A wonderful collectible, could be put on a necklace, but original intent was to go with a Netsuke and Inro case. Fine carvers are as endangered as the living elephant, and pieces like this beauty are much harder to find ...click for details

A beautiful and skilled copy of a Japanese wood netsuke. This is an Oni [demond] with a lantern on his head. It is true to the Japanese original which is worth thousands of dollars, this one was hand carved in China and is a fraction of the cost, for a very fine copy that looks like the original. It is 4" tall and about a decade old. These were done in very small numbers and this is the only one of this type I have seen, it is a great piece of work.

When the Japanese first met with Europeans, they were Dutch Merchants. Here is a remarkable recreation of that first meeting. This is a Chinese carved hardwood netsuke that is a very faithful copy of a Japanese original that is priceless. You see a Dutch merchant with his traditional hat and he holds a goat, they brought livestock with them. This top quality Chinese carving was done over a decade ago. There are few or no skilled carvers left in China, so this copy will continue to climb in value ...click for details
