Very attractive piece with beautiful carving. The natural malachite graining-matrix does not show in the photographs except for the bottom view but it does have a beautiful matrix in the carving. This is a fine piece of work. It is Chinese and from the "Hong Kong" mark on the bottom of the wood base [inlayed with silver metal], it would be made during the embargo period for Chinese goods, over 40 years ago. This small sculpture is a very nice quality and color of bowenite Jade. It depicts a Buddha atop a tiger. Good carving of this very hard natural color gemstone. It is about 30 years old and it is 2 1/4"X2 1/4"X1"
This carving is probably 50 years old. The details are outstanding and the quality of the soapstone is also outstanding. The God of wisdom with elongated forehead is holding a peach for longevity. Oily smooth yellow-tan soapstone has very uniform matrix. The piece is small at 2 1/2" tall, but the very fine carving of face, hand and clothing makes this a special piece.
