Ex votos are one of the very charming forms of Mexican folk art. An expression of intense faith, devotion and thankfulness - these painted pieces are offerings of thankfulness for divine intervention. This particular piece loosely translated is dedicated by Gaudensio Preciliano to thank the Jesus for his intervention (and bestowal of a favor) in the year 1963. Measures 11 7/8" by 7 7/8". This is a 25 piece vintage Mexican pottery tea set from Oaxaca, ca. late 1940's or early 1950's. The set includes eleven cups and saucers, one teapot, one creamer, and one sugar holder. All pieces are in browns, yellows and greens: though a few also have a bit of blue thrown in. Oaxacan drip ware is charming and great for fall and winter meals.
