A very charming, white phase tree of life by Maestro Heron Martinez. The work of Heron Martinez has been admired for many years, is held in most important collections of Mexican folk art, and Mexican folk art museums. This lovely piece features barn animals, one on top of the other, topped with a crowing rooster. In excellent vintage condition with light color loss and a missing lower jaw on the upper most animal. A piece of artistic merit that also brings a smile to an onlooker every time it is ...click for details

An exceptional ceramic tree of life by Master Folk Artist Alfonso Castillo. A very early, signed piece in rich jeweled colors featuring an iconic assortment of birds, fruits and flowers is finished with the most unexpected bird details I have ever seen in a Castillo Tree: a long legged flamingo and a duck at his side. Standing a full 31" high and measuring 17" across (widest points used). Even in the universe of special Mexican trees of life this piece is a most exceptional example.

Vintage wooden nicho with Cristo figure. I purchased this from a gentleman who had traveled up with goods from Oaxaca to sell in a small tianguis outside of Mexico City. The wooden nicho retains its rich red paint ~ most likely created with a vegetable or insect base. It also reveals some of its original golden paint highlights. This Cristo appears to be created out of a cornstalk paste ~ which I find quite interesting because this traditional art form must have spread to the Oaxacan artist from ...click for details

One the largest, most delightful vintage wooden toys from Mexico that I have had the pleasure of coming across. This ca. late 1950s-late 1960s mechanical toy captures a group of five skeletons out for a bit of carousing in a local taverna. They are smoking, drinking, playing guitar, and generally enjoying themselves during their annual return visit to this earthly life. A little metal bar and crank on the right hand side can be turned, and when turned, hands start to gyrate, feet start to bounce ...click for details

Vintage Mexican Tin Nicho ~ Frame with Reverse Painted Glass Border. Charming, naive stamp and etch work top off this nicely sized nicho. Glass border adorned with reverse painted red daisies. Outer measurements are 16 1/2" by 8 3/4". The inner box is 10 3/4" by 7 3/4". It is in fine condition with the exception of two horizontal cracks in the side glass on the left. The original 'wavey' glass remains present and intact.
