Here is an interesting and intriguing pin. It consists of a rose-gold-decorated silver sword at the top (with an insignia mounted on it of carved rose gold), with a suspended pair of gold-mounted claws of some sort. The gold mounting is centered by a very sphinx-like face, and suspended from that is a star. The findings indicate the piece is circa roughly 1900. The back of the claw mounting boasts a pyramid. The whole piece measures 1-3/4" l x 1-5/8" at the widest point. I was told by ...click for details

This striking jewel tests as at least 14k. It is set with an aquamarine, and 4 pear shaped purple garnets, all foiled, all set within an Etruscan Revival motif of coiling decorated gold ropes and leaves. It is graced with two gold dangling chains. The pin measures 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/4" deep. The chains make the whole piece measure 2-1/2” long. The pin stem assembly appears to be all original. There is one tiny hole in the gold, which is not visible from the top, otherwise very good condition ...click for details

Here is a sweet opal in a very simple rose gold setting. The opal has a wide range of colors, from the oranges and reds to the blues and greens. I’ve tried to capture the colors in the photos, but getting the reds was particularly difficult. The opal measures 5/16 x about 3/16, and the pin is shorter than usual, measuring 2-1/8”. The opal has a slight crack at the bottom, but it doesn’t come anywhere near the top’s surface. Circa 1890.

I brought this at a tiny antique show in Devonshire. The inscription says: “In Memory of Thos. Sutton Died 11 July 1839 Aged 59". It tests for 14k gold. The pin assembly is a later replacement, but is still old, and the clasp has a neat safety. The solder is visible, but it doesn’t interfere with the inscription at all. The enamel has one inconspicuous chip, otherwise in excellent condition. The “window” is in excellent condition except for one tiny chip. If there is hair inside, it is very ...click for details

This lovely stick pin is a real eye catcher! White and blue enamel on 14k yellow gold, and centered by a lovely blue sapphire of an old cut, it really stands out. The decorated disk measures ½”, and the whole thing measures 2-3/4” in length. Marked 14k and with the Krementz maker’s mark. There is a small amount of blue enamel loss above the sapphire; please see photos. Otherwise in excellent condition. Circa 1910.

These beautiful double cuff links have a foliate design, and measure 5/8 x 7/16". They weigh 0.15oz or 4.2 g. All cuffs are identical, and the back of each is signed “WH” and “10ct” – which is weird, because the gold standard in the USA was 10, but we spell it with a k. The gold standard in the UK was 9, and they spelled it with a c. So, who knows? In any case they are lovely. The loops to which the chains are attached, and the chain links themselves, show the wear of much use and love, bu ...click for details

Here is a small pin consisting of a navette-shaped piece of jade in an 18kt gold setting. The decorative setting looks like twisted wire around the sides. It is signed with an Asian character, and also a “20” (please see photos). It measures 1-1/8” x 7/16”. The hinge of the pin is original, circa 1900. The clasp may be a replacement, but if so, it was very well done. There is a slight tear to the metal on the back of the setting, otherwise it is in excellent condition. Circa 1900.

Here is a lovely ring, from either the early Victorian or late Georgian period, in 18k rose gold. The center stone is a ruby cut in an older style, but in excellent condition. It is possible that it’s a replacement stone. It is surrounded by 8 rose cut diamonds that might be foiled, but in any case are in a closed-back setting. The top of the setting is plain, but its underside is a basket of gold. It is unmarked and has a nice patina. The ring is a size 8-1/4, and could be sized.

This is definitely a Statement Ring. The gorgeous and intriguing octagonal gold-in-quartz top measures about 7/8”. It is bezel or collet set, surrounded by a decoration of twisted gold. The setting tests as a strong 14k or weak 18 karat gold, and the shank is a strong 10 karat, and the color of the gold matches. It is unmarked. I believe the quartz-in-gold top used to be a pin, though someone suggested to me that it was mounted in the top of a fancy walking stick. The top is most likely Victoria ...click for details
