This charming brooch is not in perfect shape, but it still has much to recommend it – it’s very pretty and wearable. Plique a jour jewels are very hard to come by these days – as you may know, they are somewhat fragile, rare, and I believe that a large percentage of them are now in collections. This piece, which seems to be a maple leaf, seems to be missing one leaf. The space was filled with a drop made of green agate. Along the main vein of each leaf and the stem are paste accent stones, and i ...click for details

This is an intricate design by Edmond-Henri Becker, well-known French medalist at the turn of the last century. The front of this piece shows Joan of Arc in profile, also a shield decorated with a sword, a crown, and 2 fleur de lys. Above her head is a banner saying “1429” and “Jehanne d’Arc”. The back shows a banner with a saint (or possibly the Madonna and Child) with two people praying. Also pictured are mistletoe, and the pommel of a sword. Just fascinating. Marks: on the front is Becker’s ...click for details

CLEARANCE SALE - $51.

Here is a very pretty pin depicting 2 calla lilies, and decorated with leaves and whiplashes. The detail is really nice. It is unmarked base metal. The C clasp is a replacement, but the rest of the pin stem assembly is original. It is stamped out, and has a very nice patina, though it might want a very gentle cleaning. 1-3/8 x 1-1/8 at the widest point. Other than the replaced clasp, it is in excellent condition. Circa 1900.

The lovely lady on the front of this locket is gazing into the heart of a flower. She is surrounded by flowers, and is draped in an off-the-shoulder gown. Her hair is partially upswept, partially cascading down her shoulder – very romantic indeed! Inside the locket is set up with 2 rings, both with their circles of plastic, so it’s ready to become home to 2 photos. It has a partial “sterling” stamp. The back has a very shallow dent, not bad at all. The whole thing has a nice patina and is in ove ...click for details

CLEARANCE SALE: $35

The design of this brooch is extremely similar to that of one made by Wm. Kerr & Co at the turn of the last century. It is unsigned, stamped, and silver plate, which is why I don’t believe it is an actual Kerr piece, but I could be wrong. According to Dorothy Rainwater, many of the Kerr designs were actually “derived almost unaltered” [stolen!] from Europe anyway. However, Rainwater also says Kerr enclosed the hollow backs of their pieces, which was not done here. Whoever made it, it’s a cha ...click for details

CLEARANCE SALE: $85

This charming portrait in silver, of a wind-swept person in a cloak and hood, is very detailed and just lovely. I tend to think it’s a boy, as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself almost looks more like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in those Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. German silver is a kind of base metal. The back is a bit tarnished, has what looks like little bubbl ...click for details
