This lovely old gold wedding ring is by Shreve & Co, with engraving on the inside of the band. Unfortunately the engraving is very faint and really can’t be read, including the date. However, the “SHREVE & CO” mark, and the “18K” are very clear. Shreve’s has gone through several name changes since they opened their doors in San Francisco. This is one of those Statement Rings. The gorgeous and intriguing quartz-in-gold top measures about 7/8” across, cut as an octagon. It is bezel or collet set, surrounded by a decoration of twisted gold. The setting tests between 14 and 18 karat gold, the shank is a strong 10 karat, and the color of the two golds matches. It is unmarked, and I just don’t know the age. I’m sure it’s not an antique, so I’ll guess at circa 1950s.
