Chinese Five Dynasties to Song Dynasty Fujian province Jian kiln bowl with unglazed purplish-brown body coated in the interior with a rich black/brown glaze referred to as "temmoku" by the Japanese. This is an early version of Jian temmoku due to its shape and unglazed exterior. The darker spots on the rim suggest that metal might have originally lined the rim. Chinese Tang dynasty Changsha kiln stoneware squat form water jar with a short neck and four lug handles at the shoulder covered overall in a tan and olive-green glaze with brown crazing that extends into the jar and onto the flat, slightly concave base. There are firing imperfections, losses to the glaze in the inside and on the base, and a glaze loss or chip to the mouth. The glaze losses on the base reveal the characteristic white slip beneath. Chinese Tang dynasty or earlier globular form jar with a short cylindrical neck and small mouth covered overall with a celadon type light brown matt glaze, streaked with tan, which ends at a flat, slightly concave base revealing a buff colored body. The glaze extends slightly into the interior mouth. The mouth rim is unglazed, suggesting the possibility that the mouth was filed down. Chinese Yuan dynasty squat baluster form guan stoneware jar with rounded shoulders and a short wide neck covered overall with an olive green Longquan celadon glaze. Only the narrow mouth rim, foot rim, and interior center are left unglazed revealing a thin cinnamon burnt firing edge where the thick glaze ends. This heavily potted jar measures 4 ¼” diameter x 2 ¾” high. Circa 13th to 14th century. Very good overall condition. Chinese Song dynasty chrysanthemum form bowl with moulded radial grooves emanating from a circular center. The bowl is covered overall with an unusual glaze (possibly qingbai or celadon with significant burial adhesions) that stops well above the unglazed knife cut low foot. 4” diameter x 1 ½” high. Very good overall condition. The tiny areas at the rim where the glaze does not cover the body could be from the original production. Song to Jin wide-mouthed squat jar (guan) with a short neck and flaring lip covered in a russet glaze with accents of dark brown over brown slip. The glaze extends into the interior and about 2/3 down the body leaving an unglazed base which reveals a smooth reddish buff body. The knife cut foot is slightly beveled inward. Chinese heavily potted Shiwan (Shekwan) ware vase decorated in thick overglaze flambe enamels with a dark lavender streaked burgundy hue. 9 1/8” high. The base holds an old collector’s label attributing the vase to the Ming dynasty, however, it more appropriately dates from the Qing (19th century to possibly 18th). Very good overall condition. This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.

Chinese Yuan dynasty stoneware ovoid form storage jar, with everted rim flange, four horizontal loop handles high at the shoulder, and slightly concave base. The glaze is degraded from prolonged burial but a neutral, whitish slip applied to the upper portion of the jar remains. A brown-glazed jar of similar shape, loop handles, and rim attributed to the Song dynasty is in the Barlow Collection at the University of Sussex. Chinese globular form wide mouth rice or grain measure jar decorated with a circular band of moulded bosses around the top shoulder. The brown glaze extends into the interior and ends well above the unglazed, slightly concave flat base which reveals a rough reddish-buff body.
