Set of three concentric stacking Japanese sakazuki (sake cups) for the marriage ceremony. Each sake cup is finely decorated in raised gold (takamakie) with a central 16-petal chrysanthemum (Imperial symbol) set against a red lacquered wood background. The sizes in diameter are 5 7/8", 5 ¼”, and 4 3/8”. Estimated to date from the late Meiji to Taisho period (circa 1900 to 1925). The three sake cups are in very good condition. Large antique Japanese lacquered wood ovoid form "jikiro" (ceremonial food container) with a pedestal base and dome-shaped cover decorated overall with chrysanthemums surrounded by gold scrolling foliage on a black ground.
