SOLD 

Chinese bronze tripod ding censor with two upright arched loop handles at the rim. A geometric band encircles the rounded body. A comparison with porcelain forms suggests a dating of S. Song to Yuan dynasty for this vessel. 5 1/8"H x 3 3/4" diameter. There are original casting flaws on the legs and a slight dent in the body (see enlargement 6). This piece is from a Tucson, Arizona estate.

Pair of Chinese late Qing dynasty porcelain ginger jars with domed lids and wood stands, each decorated with white branches of prunus blossoms against a cobalt ground in the Hawthorn pattern, a style very much in vogue in the Kangxi period. Each base holds two underglaze blue concentric circles. One mouth rim is glazed while the second is unglazed. SOLD 

Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain bowl decorated in brilliant famille rose enamels with a bird and flower motif. A four-character iron-red square Tongzhi mark is on the base. The bright enamels suggest this bowl is of the period (1862-1874), but it could date as late as the Guangxu period (late 19th century). Measures 6 5/8” diameter x 2 ½” high. Very good overall condition with no chips or cracks. There is some typical wear to the gilt on the rim. This bowl is from a Tucson, Arizona estate.

Japanese woodblock print triptych of swimming turtles and fish with actor mons and human faces by Yoshu Chikanobu (1838-1912) dated 5th month of Meiji 19 (1886). The convention of disguising portraits of actors arose in the Edo period when bust portraits of actors were banned, through the Tempo Reforms of 1841-1843, for being conspicuous and a detriment to public morality. SOLD 

Large Chinese rectangular hardwood scroll-form stand (xiaoji). It has very attractive grain and is formed from a single piece of wood slowly bent into shape. It measures 18 ¾”L x 11 5/8”W x 4”H. Estimated to date from the late Qing to early Republic period. The hand-bent scrolled ends are somewhat irregular, so the stand does not sit completely flat. This piece is from the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.

Chinese Qing dynasty Daoguang period (1821-1850) geyao type porcelain censer of compressed bombe form with thick flat rim and two animal-mask handles at the sides. The pale gray glaze, covered overall with the characteristic black and brown crackles, completely covers the interior of the censer and the exterior of the ringed foot and extends part way down the interior foot of the recessed unglazed base. Rare Edo period Japanese namazu-e (earthquake fish picture) woodblock print featuring a giant human-like catfish receiving punishment after being found guilty by a judge for causing the Ansei earthquake of 1855. A group of human-like catfish watch as the punishment is being meted out.
