Oban diptych by Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) depicting Kusunoki Masashige (1294-1336), the epitome of the loyal samurai warrior, bidding farewell to his son Masatsura as he prepares to die in battle fighting for the Emperor. His son holds a scroll on strategy he has given him as a gift. This image is from the series "A New Selection of Eastern Brocade Pictures." Unusually large Tibetan copper and silver or silverplate mihrab form reliquary, or portable shrine box, decorated in repousse on the cover with a pattern of abstract scrolls. The back, sides, and side handles are copper. Also called a “gau,” these prayer boxes were used to hold protective amulets, personal deities, and written prayers. The print depicts the filial daughter Asako who runs into a burning house in order that her mother could collect on an insurance policy. SOLD 

Antique Chinese stem cup finely decorated with two opposing four-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls. A third dragon is in the interior of the cup. The stem features the wave patterned border popular on stem dishes of the late Tongzhi and early Guangxu Periods. Circa 1880 - 1900. 4 3/4" diameter of bowl by 3 3/8" high. Excellent overall condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. There is some wear to the enamels and gilt on the rim consistent with its age and use.

Chinese Yuan dynasty Longquan olive-colored celadon glazed stem-cup (wine cup), the exterior with a faintly incised vertical ribbing. The glaze stops short of the base. The paste is rough and reddish and the foot is beveled inward. Circa 14th century. 3 7/8” high x 4 ¾” diameter. Very good overall condition. Japanese cloisonne vase decorated with two cattleya orchids set against a green ground. The interior counter enamel is black and the rims are chrome. The Ando Cloisonne Company seal is on the base rim. Measures 8 1/2" high x 4" diameter at the mouth. Dates from the Showa period (mid-20th century). Very good overall condition.

Chinese porcelain covered ginger jar decorated in famille rose enamels with three circular medallions featuring lush flowering plants set against a dense blue graviata ground covered with scattered floral sprays. The base bears an apocryphal square red seal form 6-character Qianlong mark. Late 19th to early 20th century. Stands about 7 ½” high. Very good overall condition. There is a faint hairline in the inner lid which is visible in enlargment 8, but can barely be seen with the naked eye.

Chinese Canton enamel card box exquisitely decorated in white on a lavender ground with flowering prunus trees on rocky outcroppings. The interior is brass with a nice old patina. This sizable box measures 7 1/2"L x 3 1/2"W x 2"H. Late Qing dynasty to early Republic period (circa 1900-1920). Very good overall condition with minor flaws consistent with its age.
