SOLD 

Pair of late Qing cylindrical form mao tong (hat stands) pierced with decorative holes decorated in underglaze blue and white slip with figural scenes on a light brown crackled ground. A square brown apocryphal “Cheng Hua” mark is on the base. Circa 1900. 11 3/8” high x 4 7/8” diameter. Excellent condition. From the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou in 1983-1984.

Tall Chinese famille verte Kangxi revival porcelain rouleau vase decorated with scenes from the Chinese literary classic “Romance of the Three Kingdoms.” 17 ¾” high. Dates from the early Republican period to possibly late Qing (Guangxu). Finely painted and in very good overall condition. The base was drilled for a lamp.

Late Qing (late 19th century) turquoise ground famille rose porcelain lidded ginger jar. The jar is finely decorated in rich polychrome enamels with the "Eight Buddhist Emblems" which, together with the shou (long life) medallion on the lid, were typical motifs on jars intended as wedding gifts. 6-character zhuanshu Jiaqing (1796-1820) mark to base but Guangxu period (1875-1908). About 7 ¼” height and diameter. Very good overall condition with a small old very thin chip to the rim. ...click for details

Chinese late Qing to early Republic period ceramic modeled container shaped like a "ha ma," or toad, with a hollow body and flat base covered in a monochrome pearl glaze with a seeded finish. Measures about 10 ½”L x 9 ¼”W x 6”H. There are some old surface cracks visible. The back section appears to have been restored and the gray areas in the pearl glaze appear to be old restorations which were executed in China. Square form travelling scholar's ink box with rounded corners featuring a center circular medallion inscribed with calligraphy and surrounded by a stylized floral wreath. The copper base holds a “baitong” mark and what appears to be a maker’s mark (see enlargement 6). 19th century. Large Chinese 19th century bombe form stoneware censer with incurving neck and everted rim, high ringed foot, and applied opposing lion-head handles on the shoulders, covered overall with a pale grayish-white Ge style crackle glaze ground. The glaze extends slightly over the rounded rim and to the edge of the foot. The base and interior are unglazed. Chinese late Qing dynasty (late 19th century) woman's rank badge embroidered with a central satin-stitched silver pheasant with very nicely detailed feathers. A single bat hovers below the sun at the upper right. This Mandarin square would have been worn by the wife of a 5th rank civil official. The badge is backed with stiff paper covered with blue silk and is bordered on the front in red silk. This rank badge measures 8 3/8"V x 9 1/8"H.
