Chinese Qing dynasty ornately carved rootwood fly-whisk handle. Fly-whisks were carried by Buddhist priests to wave away flies which, according to Buddhist tenets, they could not kill. Chinese scholar's desk root wood sculpture carved with two scholars conversing among trees and rockery. The projecting "finger" appears to be carved in the form of Guanyin, although the face is barely apparent (see enlargement 11). This sculpture is crafted from a fairly hard wood. Chinese Qing dynasty (19th century) porcelain vase decorated in underglaze blue flowers and scrolling foliage against a white porcelain ground. Stands 7" high (8 1/4" high on the stand). Very good overall condition with soiling and wear consistent with its age. There is one tiny burst bubble and a thin, old, chip or firing imperfection to the rim. Sizable Chinese 19th century minyao ("people's ware") porcelain bowl decorated on the exterior in underglaze blue with a scrolling lotus motif against a white porcelain ground. Two Chinese 19th century Minyao ("people's ware") dishes decorated in underglaze blue with lotus flowers and scrolling foliage against a white porcelain ground. The owner's name is marked in the interior of each and a Buddhist swastika mark is on one. A square underglaze blue seal is on the base of each. There is sand grit adhering to the foot of one dish. Large Chinese dark purple-black Yixing pottery teapot with pewter handles and mounting in the form of a butterfly around the spout, a "shou" (longevity) symbol on the back, and a bat motif on each side. A square seal on the center of the base is partly covered by the pewter mounting (see enlargement 7). The interior pouring hole has a pewter cover with small holes which act as a strainer. Chinese ovoid form deep apple green monochrome crackle-glaze vase with a short neck and slightly flared rim. A dense "ge" style crackle glaze with primary and secondary dark and light brown crackles against an oatmeal ground lines the mouth rim, the full interior, and the base. The rounded foot rim is inward slanting and has a small step outside. Stands 8 3/4" high. This vase is estimated to date from the early 20th century to possibly late 19th. Chinese Yuan dynasty melon form ewer with a small applied amber glazed handle, short spout, and two small loop handles. A gray-green qingbai (yingqing) glaze extends partly into the jar and about 2/3 of the way to the flat, slightly concave base, revealing a reddish-buff body. Chinese Song to Yuan qingbai (yingqing) shallow foliate form scholar’s porcelain brush washer with ribbed cavetto in a creamy pale green glaze with tiny speckled imperfections. Chinese Yuan dynasty globular porcelain jar with short neck and flaring lip covered overall with a pale gray-green qingbai (yingqing) glaze with orange-brown crazing which extends into the interior and stops short of the unglazed foot and base.
