Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1643) covered jar decorated in underglaze blue with bird and floral designs. 16th century. 6 3/4"H. Very good overall condition. There are a few tiny chips to the underside of the lid (see enlargement 8). There is a small production dimple in the inside of the rim (see enlargement 12). It is not a chip or loss.
Chinese late Qing blue and white porcelain moonflask, or pilgrim vase, of flattened globular form decorated with a cracked ice and prunus ("bingmei") motif, which is also known as the Hawthorne pattern. Two writhing qilong handles are at either side of the cylindrical neck. There is some kiln grit adhering to the recessed base. Late 19th century. 10 1/8”H x 6” across. Very good overall condition. Pair of late Qing cylindrical form mao tong (hat stands) pierced with decorative holes decorated in underglaze blue and white slip with figural scenes on a light brown crackled ground. A square brown apocryphal “Cheng Hua” mark is on the base. Circa 1900. 11 3/8” high x 4 7/8” diameter. Excellent condition. From the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou in 1983-1984.
Tall Chinese famille verte Kangxi revival porcelain rouleau vase decorated with scenes from the Chinese literary classic “Romance of the Three Kingdoms.” 17 ¾” high. Dates from the early Republican period to possibly late Qing (Guangxu). Finely painted and in very good overall condition. The base was drilled for a lamp.
Japanese two-section Kansai area kiri (pawlonia) wood isho tansu (clothing chest) with black iron hardware and featuring sliding doors at the top with incised brass fittings, twelve drawers of assorted sizes, and a safe with two interior drawers. Each side has one large and three smaller carrying handles. Late 19th century. 62"H x 34 1/2"W x 15 1/4"D. Very good overall condition with a nice patina. A fine example of Osaka cabinetry, this large Japanese sho-dana (shelf tansu) crafted of karaki wood (rosewood) features drawer fronts and doors decorated in silver wire inlay. The double doors at the bottom left open to reveal a single horizontal shelf separating two equal sized shelf compartments. The sliding doors at the top open to a single storage commpartment. Qing Dynasty (19th century) Chinese Manchu style robe decorated in embroidered dragons chasing flaming pearls (symbolizing the Buddhist notion of enlightenment) executed in gold-couched thread on a blue silk ground.
