| "Gateway to Zuisen Temple, Narumi" by Hasui Kawase (1883-1947) from the series "Selection of Views of the Tokaido" dated the 6th month of Showa 7 (1932). This first edition vertical oban "shin hanga" print bears the design "C" cartouche of the publisher Watanabe (used 1929-1942). Rare image with a small known edition size of 100. Illustrated in the "Toledo Museum of Art 1936 Special Exhibition of Modern Japanese Prints," catalogue #65. Also illustrated in color in volume two, plate 225, page 402 of "Kawase Hasui: The Complete Woodblock Prints" by Kendall H. Brown, Hotei Publishing, 2003. Paper size about 15 3/8"V x 10 1/2"H. Fine impression quality with the wood block grain visible in the sky. Small amount of glue residue on the back of the print and a small area where the print was thinned on the back from the removal of glue residue. This is not visible from the front. | ||||||||
