15"H Chinese Qing Canton Blue & White Export Porcelain Faceted Vase
Chinese Qing dynasty export porcelain vase of faceted baluster form, with high slanted shoulders, tall waisted neck, flared rim, and splayed foot decorated in the Canton style in underglaze blue on a white ground with the traditional exotic houses, mountains, ships and figures. Applied to the sides of the neck are two underglaze blue Buddhist lion and cub handles. Stylized bamboo stalks are at the base. The deep recessed base and the interior are glazed. The foot rim is unglazed and has significant kiln grit adhering. 15 high x about 7 diameter. Circa 1850. Very good overall condition. There are two small chips at the rim that could be burst bubbles (see enlargements 11 and 12). This vase is from the private collection of a former American diplomat to Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
