| Chinese Kangxi period (1662-1722) ginger jar decorated in underglaze blue on a slightly off-white porcelain ground with shou characters alternating with stylized leafy lotus heads. A ruyi head border extends around the circumference of the upper shoulder. Measures about 8 inches high and 7 1/2 inches diameter. 18th century. Very good overall condition with a few minor old brown production hairlines in the interior. A markedly similar jar illustrated as lot 3 Sale 7816 sold at Christie’s London on June 17, 2009 for $1333. From the private collection of a former American diplomat to Guangzhou and Beijing between 1983-1987. | ||||||||||||||
