Japanese Meiji Imari Porcelain Pear Form Lidded Jar
Donated to the Asian Arts Council of the Phoenix Art Museum

Japanese Meiji period Imari porcelain jar of inverted pear form covered with a high domed lid topped with a bud form finial. The vertically ribbed body is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze rust-red and coral enamel with gilt highlights and features four alternating panels of overglaze enamel butterflies, flowers, and foliage set against a white porcelain ground. The panels are bordered in underglaze cobalt blue patterned vertical strips. 9 H x about 5 diameter. Circa 1880-1910. Very good overall condition with minor wear to the enamels. This jar is from a Tucson, Arizona estate.
