15" Chinese Qing Guangxu Blue & White Wucai Red Ground Porcelain Jar
Large and heavily potted Chinese Qing dynasty Guangxu period porcelain jar decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze famille verte enamels with a continuous landscape scene featuring a beauty standing in a garden surrounded by trees and rocks and a man and child on a boat feeding ducks in a pond. The scene is set against an overglaze red background. The underglaze blue figural decoration is very well executed. An underglaze blue apocryphal four-character kaishu Kangxi reign mark is on the base. The interior and base are glazed but the foot rim is unglazed. Late 19th century to circa 1900. Measures 15 1/4" high and about 8" diameter. There is one fine hairline to the base and there are scratches, small losses, and quite a bit of wear to the red overglaze enamel background. An old browned hairline crack, which might be from the original production, is barely visible in the side. From the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
